Honestly, there aren’t any clear answers to this question. It really depends on what you are wearing and if you bring a bag with you on a daily basis. Coat pockets, particularly inside pockets are great for holding your EDC — but nothing beats a satchel or messenger bag in terms of on-the-go storage. I also get quite a bit of use out of the tools I keep on my keyring. Whatever you do, don’t look to cargo pants to solve your carry issues — they look especially ridiculous when filled to bursting with gadgets and gear.

If you’re comfortable with tweaking the sensibilities of suspender snobs and bending the “rules”, more power to you. It’s okay to dress a little outside the lines if you’re able to do it with confidence. Plus, I believe that the suspenders with a belt faux pas has relaxed as suspenders are less and less common.

Hmm, I like to wear my suspenders with my belt. Without the belt the suspenders pull unevenly at the 4 points of attachment. I find it uncomfortable. With the belt, the weight of my pants are evenly distributed. I wear them for both work (casual) and with my suits. Never cared much about fashion faux pas. I just want to be comfortable and not have my pants fall down.
